After Microsoft’s RM10.5 billion, Tengku Zafrul says that Google is also announcing an investment in Malaysia soon

Previously, we reported on Microsoft investing a record RM10.5 billion in Malaysia to empower cloud computing and AI. Now, it looks like another tech giant, Google, is investing in our country too, with an announcement on the matter to be made in the near future. 

This is according to the Minister of Investment, Trade and Industry (MITI) Tengku Datuk Seri Zafrul Abdul Aziz. As reported by Bernama, Tengku Zafrul shared that a virtual meeting took place on Monday (6 May) between Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim and Google President and Chief Investment Officer Ruth Porat.

Other senior management members of the tech giant were also present in the virtual meeting. The MITI Minister added that he and Digital Minister Gobind Singh Deo were also part of the meeting which covers, among others, the investment in our country. 

Tengku Zafrul further elaborated that the investment amount will be announced after it’s approved. Moreover, he said that the announcement will be made in the near future.
