OpenAI wants to turn ChatGPT into a search engine alternative

Most people use a regular search engine to look up things. But is the regular search engine good enough in 2024? Well, OpenAI probably thinks adding some AI power is better. Sources say that a search function is coming to ChatGPT.

According to Bloomberg, OpenAI is working on a ChatGPT feature to add a search engine-like feature to the platform. A person possibly linked to the project claimed that ChatGPT will use details from the Internet and cite sources like Wikipedia entries and blog posts. As you know, it's basically what search engines do.

Note that this isn't anything particularly new. For your info, Microsoft CoPilot can do the same. If you've updated your Windows 11, you can ask it to search for things for you. Typically, the results will have an answer or summary of what you're searching for, along with cited links to various sources (where relevant).

What's interesting is that ChatGPT seems to be working on expanding on that. Allegedly, a version of the feature being tested will include images with the results given. For instance, if a user wants to know how to fix a doorknob, there will be diagrams to show how it's done.

We don't know when ChatGPT will release this feature, but you can probably expect the company to announce it soon. Regardless, we'll keep an eye on future updates, so stay tuned to TechNave for more news!
